A short note on Vitamins and where they come from

A quick background story before moving ahead. I run, lift weights, rock climb and work physically hard at work. I have been taking vites and various supplements for years (decades )
I met two guys at my local gym in Vancouver, who stood out because they were hitting everything with super intensity and focus. One of them turned out to be a fitness/training counselor by profession and had a few fresh ideas for this old gym dog. ( the other guy, Collin moved to California to start a company called  "Zirtual" )
So, to the point. Paul Valiuis works for a company called "Precision Nutrition". I have been reading the articles featured on their website and recommending certain ones to friends. One such article is going to be a game changer for me.

Have look at the article written by Ryan Andrews, on "Where do Vitamins come from?"....in it is a description of how a particular synthetic B vitamin is cooked up from a brew of coal tar ( coal tar??? ) and hydrochloric acid  ....mmmm yum!..

So now I have to go through my shelves and check out exactly what it is that I'm ingesting in the hopes of better health and performance.... I can't really believe that some little tablet derived from petroleum and hydrochloric acid is going to good in the long haul. And like Ryan mentions in the article....it's all about the price and profit....synthetics are cheaper and easier to source.

I'm just saying...it's your money and your long term health.....you might want to ask a few questions....

When I'm finished researching all of the goodies on my vitamin shelf, I 'll be looking to make make sure that no one is adding coal tar, hydrochloric acid and crushed cockroaches to my soy ice cream and taco chips....
